Pets in the cabin

You can take your pet dog or cat with you inside of the cabin. But remember the following restrictions.

Container requirements

  • The carrier must follow the guidelines of certified authorities.
  • The carrier should be fully locked.
  • Your pet should be able to comfortably move inside the carrier.
  • For dogs, the carrier can be made of fabric or hard plastic.
  • For cats, the carrier must be made of hard plastic.
  • A plastic clamp will be provided to you at the airport and should stay on the container while on board.
  • The container should be placed under your frontal seat of and other personal items should be placed in the overhead compartment.

  • Your pet should be able to comfortably move or stand on its paws inside the carrier.
  • The carrier must be made of hard material.
  • It must be waterproof.
  • It should have a proper ventilation system on at least three sides.
  • There should be no wheels.
  • It should not contain any objects that can hurt your pet while in the air.
  • The carrier should be properly locked.
  • Handles should be available.
  • If required, you can place food and water inside the container.
  • Smell neutralizer, absorptive material, and kitty litter must be available.

Destination Restrictions

Due to the CDC restriction, if your pet is traveling from El Salvador, Guatemala, Colombia, and Honduras or has been in any of these countries in the last 180 days, can not enter the US.

  • This restriction will not be valid if you bring the CDC dog import certificate and land in New York.
  • These restrictions apply to emotional support dogs also.
  • If you have already purchased a ticket, you can request for a refund.

Required documents

  • Rabies vaccination certificate.
    • If your pet just had the first dose, then it should be before 30 days of the flight date.
    • The pet must have a booster dose if its age is 15 months or more to fly.
    • Health certificate stating your pet is doing alright.
    • The health certificate must be expressed on the notepad paper of a certified veterinarian with his/her license number. 
    • It should be dated within five days of the flight.
    • If the paper does not contain the license number, then you can present a copy of his/her license.
    • If the return flight is not within five days of the issued date, you have to present another certificate which is dated within five days of the return date.
    • Your pet must have a deworming treatment within 180 days of the date of return.

Emotional Support Animals (ESA)

Travelers can travel with their emotional support animals without any additional charge via Volaris Airlines. But emotional support animals are only allowed in flights within Mexico and from Mexico to central America and contra.

  • The animal must be a dog or a cat.
  • A document from any mental health specialist is required. It must be issued within one year. It must clearly state that the person is under professional care and the animal is needed for the passenger.
    • It must be expressed on the notepad paper of a certified veterinarian with his/her license number. 
  • Other documents are the same as for normal pets. Check the “Required documents” section above.
  • The animal’s weight can not exceed 26 Ibs.
  • Take a leash with you.
  • It can travel in a container.
    • For dogs, the carrier can be made of fabric or hard plastic.
    • For cats, the carrier must be made of hard plastic.
    • Total weight of the pet and its container should not exceed 26 Ibs.
    • Your pet should not get out of the container while take-off or landing.
  • You will have to sign the “Liability Waiver” if your emotional support animal is brachycephalic.
  • You will have to sign the Volaris pet transportation form which will be provided at the airport. 

Service dog

Passengers with disabilities can bring their service dogs with them on board without any additional charge. You should inform Volaris Airlines about your service dog after the flight has been booked. Their staff will assist you at the airport.

  • You will need to present a health certificate stating that your service dog is clinically healthy.
  • You will have to sign the Volaris pet transportation form which will be provided at the airport. 
  • You have to fill up the DOT form and bring it with you in case you are flying from or to the US.
  • Other documents are the same as for normal pets. Check the “Required documents” section above.
  • It must wear a collar at all times.
  • You will have to sign the “Liability Waiver” if your service dog is brachycephalic.

Booking

  • While booking your flight on Volaris website, You will find the “Travel With Your Pet” option while selecting your seat. After selecting that option, you will need to select whether you want your pet with you inside of the cabin or as checked baggage. Select the option you prefer.
  • Book your flight as soon as possible as a maximum of two pets in the cabin and four pets as checked baggage are allowed per flight.

Check-in

  • If you are traveling within Mexico, be present at the airport two hours before the flight.
  • If you are having an international flight then it is recommended to check-in at least three hours before the flight.

Other important things

  • Collect your pet as soon as possible after landing from the baggage claim section.
  • Make sure the pet does not go under any surgical operation within five days ahead of the flight.
  • You can take pets neither inside of the cabin nor as checked baggage on flights handled by Frontier.
  • If your dog is inside the cabin with you, you can choose any window seat excluding premium or emergency exit.
  • If your pet is a cat then you can choose window seats only in the ending row.
  • Do not feed your pet within four hours of the flight.
  • No sedatives.
